Reflections: A Play & A Drum

What a wonderful Sunday, as I reflect on my past week I had the gift of theater from my dear friend Susan.  She was unable to make the play “A Color Purple” at the Ordway last Wednesday and so she gifted me her tickets at the last minute.  What a fabulous opportunity, I treated myself to dinner and then headed downtown to the Ordway, five rows from the stage and right in the center on the main floor.  I loved the book A Color Purple by Alice Walker, Steven Spielberg’s movie is a favorite and of course I have heard great reviews about the play presented on Broadway by Oprah Winfrey so needless to say I was NOT disappointed.  The acting, music and dancing was absolutely fantastic!  If you get a chance to see this play of love and redemption please take the opportunity, we are blessed to have this caliber of acting in the twin cities.
This morning I got up and I could hardly wait to see, touch and hear my new drum, what an amazing experience to play a drum and feel the vibrations from an instrument that I had created with my own hands.  When I picked up my drum I could still smell the wet  deer skin,  I thought I would only tap on it briefly as I wanted to wait for it to dry completely  but I found I couldn’t put it down.  I wish my husband had been with me to build his own drum but perhaps next time, there will be other classes – I can’t wait.  Thank you to Wayne Mathey for sharing his gift as an artist and teacher, I highly recommend this experience to anyone  interested in this beautiful art form!  http://web.mac.com/drummaker
On a final note I celebrated my nephew Chase’s 16th birthday last night with family and friends, good food, good times and a warm and humble way to end my week in gratitude, knowing  I am surrounded in love.
Wishing you Joy and Peace,
Mary
