Did you Vote?

Today is my father’s birthday, he would have been 94 years old and he would have called me to make sure I voted before the end of the day.  Dad was a WWII POW and he liked to remind us that he “didn’t go over there for nothing” meaning his time overseas in the concentration camps.  Whenever election time rolled around he reminded us of our right and responsibility to vote.  While there are times I’m disappointed in the candidate choices I’m reminded of my father’s military service as he often told us stories of his survival through the Bataan March, the prison camps in the Philippines and the mines in Japan where he...

In Honor of Veterans

Dad WWII POW It’s Memorial Day week end and I stopped by the florist yesterday to order a small wreath to place on my father’s grave at Fort Snelling Cemetery.  Memorial Day is a special day of remembrance for our veterans and my Dad always made sure we understood the contributions of those who served because of his own military experience.  In honor of veterans I want to share one of Dad’s stories from his video recordings of his WWII/POW experience. “Well, I was born and raised on a farm in Texas, I joined the service (US ARMY) in 1941 just before the war started, I had my training in Texas.  From Texas they were filling in right now...

Creating Space for Something Wonderful

I dropped my little dog off to be groomed today for the first time, some of you are aware that I took in a rescue poodle, a tiny toy male at 3.6 lbs.  We’ve had him for a month now and it’s been a wonderful addition to our family, I’d forgotten the unconditional love you get from a small pet.  It’s been a joy to have this lively little dog in our lives as we care for him, play with him and watch him make us laugh.  We’ve also had the unexpected joy of running to the emergency Vet Clinic after hours and adding extra Dr. exams as we “remember” what it’s like to be responsible for a tiny little life but it’s worth it,...
